What is a Drone Survey?

A drone survey uses an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with high-resolution cameras to capture precise images from above. This bird’s-eye view allows surveyors to examine a building or site with remarkable clarity, identifying issues that may not be visible from ground level. When is a Drone Survey Needed?

Drone surveying is particularly useful when traditional inspection methods are unsafe, inefficient or overly expensive. Situations where a drone survey is ideal include:

• Access is restricted or unsafe. When accessing a roof, chimney, or higher level of a building or structure would put someone at risk, a drone can inspect the area safely from the air.
• Avoid costly access equipment. Scaffolding, cherry pickers and platforms can be expensive. A drone survey is a fast, cost-effective alternative.
• Large or complex sites. For large commercial properties, industrial facilities, or construction sites, drones can quickly cover extensive areas whilst capturing detailed, high-resolution images.
• Insurance, planning and maintenance records. Aerial images provide clear visual documentation that can support planning applications, insurance claims, facilities management, and maintenance planning.
• Assessing damage or deterioration. After storms or leaks, or if there are structural concerns, a drone can be deployed almost immediately, helping to determine the extent of the issue without waiting for access equipment.
