In these testing times, businesses have been hit with increases in national insurance contributions and the minimum wage, coupled with increased utility costs. If that wasn’t enough, many small businesses have already seen their small business rate relief disappear, and more will do so, because of a revaluation of rateable values in 2026 to above the threshold of £12,500 for small business rate relief. Whilst the business rate system is deemed to be unfair, by many, and in need of an overhaul, the government has introduced a support package aimed at small businesses, hospitality and leisure under the ‘Supporting Small Business Scheme’ to cushion the blow of the 2026 revaluation.
